Family Fun Day and Christmas Parade
Yate Shopping Centre
Christmas kicks-off on Saturday 18th November in Yate when the Shopping centre will stage a ‘Family Fun Day’ and Santa’s Grotto opens its doors for the first time.
As Centre Manager, Andy Lowrey, explains this year’s event focuses on the community: “Rather than having high profile stars opening the traditional build-up to Christmas, we have opted for a more community focussed event with family: a Fun Day and Christmas Parade on the Saturday, when Santa’s Grotto also opens its doors.
“We’ll have the traditional parades and light switch-on with the Santa’s Grotto, all of which will lead to a vibrant Christmas atmosphere in the five-week run-up to the Christmas break. We’ve also got some of the regular temporary traders coming in to fill the existing vacant units”.
The Family Fun Day is scheduled for Saturday, 18th November when Santa’s Grotto also opens. There will be two parades at 1pm and 3pm headed by Santa on his sleigh, stilt walkers, jugglers, and pantomime characters with live music, face painting and balloon modelling activities taking place on the sidelines. The climax of the day will be the lights switch-on at 4pm.
Santa’s Grotto will be open at weekends for the remainder of November, Fridays to Sundays for the first two weeks of December and continuously from 14th December onwards. The entry fee, to include a free gift, is £4 per child.
Visiting traders include the What Christmas store which will occupy the former 99p Stores in South Walk and will be open for approximately six months over the Christmas period. Further Christmas temporary outlets include Calendar Club at 8 West Walk and Gift Box at 10 South Walk.
