SARA supports Drowning Prevention Week
The Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA) is supporting Drowning Prevention Week, 12-19 June. Every day you'll find advice and material published on their Social Media platforms.
Around 400 people tragically lose their lives to drowning each year in the UK. Drowning is the third highest cause of accidental death amongst children in the UK and 40% of drowning victims never expected to be in the water.
Drowning Prevention Week is created by the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) UK, and is now its 7th year. The aim of the campaign is to help everybody across the UK to #BeALifesaver and take charge of their own destiny to enjoy the water, safely. The time of year is most crucial – across the UK there is a spike in fatal drowning incidents during the summer months. There is increasing concern this summer because Coronavirus has resulted in reduced beach lifeguard services and fewer supervised venues.
SARA is proud to support this campaign again this year. Every year, SARA is involved with many rescues of people who are in danger of drowning. We want to support the positive effort to give individuals and families the skills and knowledge they require to enjoy the water, safely. You can keep touch with SARA by visiting our facebook page below.
The RLSS works tirelessly to educate people to enjoy water safely, to keep their families and friends safe and to know what to do in an emergency. They offer valuable support and counselling services to friends and families that have been affected by drowning incidents.
