A simple way of sharing good food that would otherwise go to waste.
Using donations of food from supermarkets such as M&S, Lidl, Aldi and Tesco that is past its best before date (but is still within use by) or its packaging has been damaged, we are able to share food that would otherwise go to waste. A community fridge is a space where anyone who lives nearby can exchange surplus food, including businesses. It can be accessed by anyone in the community, and anyone can give to or take food from the fridge!
A fridge is often so much more than a fridge. It can also provide an opportunity for you to meet new people, try new foods as well as signposting you to other services and activities such as cooking workshops, allotments, clothes swaps... you name it.
We find that people come to share: food, recipes, problems, stories, experiences, conversation, skills, advice and much more. It's about saving money, reducing waste but also about connecting neighbours and taking time to talk.
WHO CAN USE THE FRIDGE?
If you're interested in helping food waste, it's for you.
If you need a little extra help financially, it's for you.
If you want a reason to get out the house, it's for you.
If you want to meet other people, it's for you.
If you want to try new foods without the cost, it's for you.
If you haven't had time to go shopping. it's for you.
If you grew too many marrows and don't know what to do with them, it's for you.
If you just want to pop along and see what it's all about, it's for you. If you have a question, or a problem and need help, it's for you.
If you're worried that "other people need it more than me" please don't. This thought leaves us with surplus food at the end of the day. The more people who start coming, the more food we can get. so please, come along.
IT'S FOR YOU!
