Talk: 180 Years of the Constabulary
Winterbourne Medieval Barn
Come and find out about the 180 year history of the constabulary in the historic county of Gloucestershire with Sue Webb. Sue is employed by the Constabulary as the force archivist with offices both in police HQ and at Gloucestershire Heritage Hub.
For the last 4 years Gloucestershire Constabulary has been involved with Gloucestershire Archives Heritage Lottery Project, 'For the Record'. This project will develop facilities and capacity for looking after the historic county of Gloucestershire's documented history - records that already exist and those that will be created over time.
It will help to make this information, held in a variety of formats that currently range from parchment to mini discs, available to the public on an ongoing basis.
Sue Webb has been involved for the last 3 ½ years with both the Constabulary and the Archives and before that worked in policing and in education. Her duties are divided between answering public queries, managing a website, providing displays for events, giving talks, working with volunteers, providing information within the Constabulary and helping the Constabulary archive to grow.
Safety is our priority so this talk in the Main Barn allows visitors to be seated in a socially distanced manner. When you book a ticket, please book for your group (up to 6 people) and we will group your seats together. We are asking that adults wear a face covering while indoors. The Main Barn can be on the chilly side at this time of year so wrap up warm! We’ll send out a reminder email closer to the time with up to date guidance and a guide of what to expect on the day. Free on-site car parking. Toilet facilities are available, and our mini cafe will be open serving tea, coffee, cake, and wine.
Tickets £5 via the Barn website www.winterbournebarn.org.uk or using the Ticketsource link below.
For those who do not yet feel confident to get out and about, or who have transport difficulties, the Trust will also be live-streaming the monthly talks on Zoom. Booking online required in the same way.
