West Gallery Workshop
Winterbourne Medieval Barn
10am - 4pm
Usually led by a village choir and band, West Gallery music was popular in churches in the 18th -19th centuries. It was fun to perform, but the Victorians disapproved and threw out the rowdy village choirs and bands in favour of organs and robed choirs.
This winter festive themed workshop is for singers and instrumentalists (strings or woodwind). The songs are sung in four parts, and are accessible to everyone whatever your voice range. You can learn by ear or read from music. Instrumental music will be supplied on the day but can be emailed in advance if you wish.
The workshop starts at 10.30am and will be led by members of Bristol Harmony West Gallery Quire. Tea, coffee and biscuits available from 10am. Bring a packed lunch and dress according to the weather (the Barn can be cool in winter). Free parking on site. The workshop costs £15, book online via Barn website below.
There will also be a performance of the music with Bristol Harmony Quire in the Barn on Saturday 4th December at 3pm which you are welcome to take part in.
