Come along to Heron Room 2 and join us to find out what's happening in Kingsgate Park.
We're a friendly informal group who work closely with Yate Town Council, which owns the park, to provide an open green space for the benefit of all.
Kingsgate Park is an excellent leisure area situated at Elmwood, between Sundridge Park and Scott Way, Yate BS37 4JB.
It's perfectly possible to drive past it without noticing it's there, but it's well worth exploring.
The park is open from 6am and closes at 10pm in the Summer (April onwards), 9pm otherwise.
It's accessible on foot by various entrances from Kenilworth, Elmwood, Sunningdale and Scott Way, and there's a small car park located at the end of Elmwood, off Sundridge Park.
There's a large playground in the centre of the park, with an adventure area that will make the adults jealous!
The lake is home to swans, ducks and newts, and the eastern edge of the park is a dedicated nature reserve area. Use of model boats is permitted on the lake.
In 2003 Yate Town Council took over management of the park and the Friends of Kingsgate Park group was formed to assist the Council to do this in the best possible way.

Yate Town Council is pleased to announce the Kingsgate Park refurbishment is complete!
Accessibility and sustainability were key to the refurbishment and new design. The new equipment is suitable for a range of different abilities, it encourages imagination and social play, and features materials that are sustainable and climate resilient. Some of the new inclusive equipment includes:
1. Satellite Carousel Swing that provides a range of users with a comfortable, low level spinning nest, and sensory experience that enables friends to combine velocity and speed one spin after the next.
2. Our new Hydra Swing that challenges our motor skills through balance, and is a great place to simply sit and sway while chatting with friends
3. The various levels of play unit in neutral materials providing children and adults who are unable to access the high-level trails with accessible play challenges;
4. A wheelchair seesaw for users with mobility equipment.
The refurbishment of the existing timber tree top trail, junior trail, youth hut and balance trail uplifted these areas with a “like-new” appearance, while preserving them for many years to come!
A £25,000 community grant was secured from Enovert Community Trust towards the new zip rider and refreshed MUGA (Multi use games area), which has been given a vibrant new look.
50 competition entries were submitted by the public to name the new bespoke duck play sculpture, it was a hard task but one successful name stood out to Yate Town Council and… Sir Quackalot he was proclaimed!
This project overcame a multitude of challenges including extreme wet weather, flooding and vandalism to play and construction equipment; we thank the public for their patience and support as we pushed on with the works, knee deep in mud.

Kingsgate Park has been a special place to visit for many generations of residents, Friends and councillors. The extra care and planning that went into this project provided many more play opportunities for all to enjoy, through the inclusive equipment on offer.
Sir Quackalot acts as a prominent reminder of the new and refurbished equipment, which will be enjoyed by many for years to come.
Usually Yate Town Council hosts Yate Rocks! each year - it's a free musical festival for all the family, with dance from local clubs and academies.
There are children's games and activities, arts & crafts and community stalls offering a wide range of local products and novelties, and drinks stalls providing different alcoholic beverages alongside a variety of catering units for food and refreshments.
Yate Town Council, in conjunction with The Friends of Kingsgate Park, holds a free annual Easter Egg Extravaganza.
The event is open to all children aged under 12 years and entrance is free. Upon completing the treasure hunt, a chocolate Easter egg is presented (subject to availability) to each child taking part. Please be aware there are a limited number of prizes available.
There is a separate area for children aged 5 and under.
There is also an Easter Bonnet parade at 11.00 am and the child with the best bonnet wins a prize.
We are a friendly informal group who work closely with Yate Town Council, which owns the park, to provide an open green space for the benefit of all.
We meet four times a year, plus we organise work days in the park and help Yate Town Council at the Easter Egg Hunt, the festival Yate Rocks! and Carols in the Park.
Apart from that we provide swan and duck food, which is sold at the Vintage Birdcage Cakery. All profits from this go back into Kingsgate Park, e.g.for more swan/duck food, new benches and plants.
Friends of Kingsgate Park in Yate are hoping to attract more volunteers to help them look after the park, which is used by all ages.
