Winterbourne Medieval Festival

Winterbourne Medieval Barn

June was the time in the medieval calendar to celebrate Midsummer, and what a celebration it was! Permission to host a June fayre in Winterbourne was granted in 1393 by King Richard II to Blanche, wife of the great-grandson of Sir Thomas de Bradeston who had commissioned the Barn to be built in 1342. So we are delighted to be upholding that tradition more than 600 years later!

Join us as we recreate some of the festivities, with combat displays, sword school, have-a-go archery, wandering jesters, games, and live medieval musicians. Small, but perfectly formed (and on a genuine medieval site), there will be a varied programme of activities throughout the day, and a range of artisan craft and food stalls. Something for everyone! A great family day out at this unique heritage site.

For full details keep an eye on our website and social media.

Pre-book tickets online now for £5 adult, and £1 child (aged 3 - 16) to avoid queues at the gate. Tickets on the day will cost £6 adult and £1 child.

Free parking at Winterbourne Academy (High Street, BS36 1JL), with a regular free shuttle bus to and from the Barn throughout the day. No parking in Church Lane as this obstructs local traffic and emergency vehicles. There is no parking at the Barn for this event, except for blue badge holders who must contact us in advance to book a space (these spaces are limited). There is plenty of space for bicycles on site.

Buses Y1 and Y2 (operated by First) run between Bristol and Yate along Winterbourne High Street. Bus Y6 runs from Yate to Parkway Station and The Mall via Beacon Lane and the High Street.

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome. Dogs remain the responsibility of the owner within the grounds of the Barn. Please dispose of dog waste in the relevant bins only.
