Lions Club makes Humanitarian Trip to Poland

Yate Shopping Centre

In partnership with Turners Coachways of Bristol, the Lions Club of Chipping Sodbury is arranging a coach to leave Yate Shopping Centre on Monday 30th May taking urgent food and
medical supplies to Poland.

Other Lions clubs are helping, including Wotton-under-Edge Lions who are providing 20 trauma bags. Kyiv Lions Club in Ukraine has a warehouse in Krakow, Poland, where the items will be delivered on 31st May. The supplies will then go directly to the Ukraine to help the people who are staying there and defending their country against the Russian Army.

The coach should arrive in Poland on the afternoon of Tuesday 31st May, then after an overnight stay, it is intended to fill the coach with people who seek refuge in the UK. After an overnight stay on Wednesday night in Germany (assisted by Lions Clubs in Germany), the coach will finally return late on Thursday 2nd June.

Following an amazing response when Chipping Sodbury Lions collected nearly £2000 during a recent one-day collection, in Yate shopping Centre, every penny of this collection went to Lions Clubs who are helping refugees near Ukraine.

However, the club members wanted to do something immediate and give direct help to people in the Ukraine. Therefore, the idea of taking a coach with supplies and returning with refugees was born and then progressed by club secretary Ian Gott.

Lions Club president, Christine Dodd, says: "Thank you to Yate Shopping Centre management (for allowing us to collect and providing a shop to store donated items) and a really big thank you to Turners Coachways of Bristol who have made this trip possible by generously providing the coach and drivers for the humanitarian trip to Poland.",

Donations of medical supplies and/or long lasting food can be dropped off on Wednesday 25th & Saturday 28th between 10:00 and 12:00 at unit 16 North Walk (formally British Heart Foundation) or for larger deliveries, contact Ian Gott on 01454 218494 or by email below.

Every penny collected by Lions Clubs goes directly to good causes as our membership fees cover any administration costs.
