SGMRG Autumn Walk: Pucklechurch Collieries
Meeting at parking area, north end of Parkfield Rank BS16 9NR at 10:15am for a prompt 10.30am start.
Our chariman Steve Grudgings will be leading a walk, probably about 4 hours, around the Pucklechurch Collieries area.
Weather and time permitting, taking a circular route, we will look at the sites of the 1760s pumping engines at Engine Bottom (great name!), the Shortwood Colliery sites and possibly the Tile Works Quarry. We hope to stop for a tour of AIBT's work at Brandy Bottom, then past site of Parkfield Colliery before returning via the railway incline to Cooks Pit (at the end of Parkfield Rank).
This is likely to last four hours. Bring a packed lunch, suitable clothing and walking shoes/boots. Note there are no formal toilet facilities en route. Parking is limited so please car-share if you can.
